Interview with Ms. Gestner

Today we interviewed Ms.Gestner! If you don’t know her she is an art teacher and is the “leader” I guess you can say of the Building Beautification Team. Here are the questions we asked her!

Q: How did you come up with the Building Beautification Team?
A: I made a painting for the staff lounge and Ms. Link loved it. She told me we needed more art in WJH and I asked if I could have my own team and then everything just bloomed right then!

Q: How did you finalize the design for the mural in the cafeteria?
A: The kids in the team proposed ideas and Ms.Link liked the idea of the mural the best, which Kathy Lee came up with

Q: What are the colors in the mural?
A: The background is going to have dark and light grey stripes, the letters are going to be red and there will be black paws around the mural.

Q: How many people are on the team?
A: On any given day it is usually 10-13 people.

Q: How do you make such a large scale mural?
A: The initial design was on a regular sheet of paper, then we create a grid. Then we enlarge everything according to the ratio and everyone on the team worked on a separate section.
Thank You- to the building beautification team.

Glass Heart (Chapter 4 and 5)

Chapter 4
 2123
Sub-level 52
The Pentagon
Colonel Modern was assigned to the pentagon after his major operation at the White-house. His injury has not stopped him yet, the explosion that caused the loss of his left eye will always be in his memory. The scar that shows where the impact affected his face was from the top of his forehead down to his cheek bone, cutting down the center of the socket. He sits down in sub-level fifty two, of the pentagon, where experiments are being done on Vietnamese soldiers killed in battle.

“So Sam, I hear you have one coming in soon, how long?” the Colonel asked Sam, his assistant. Sam and the colonel have been partners in tests since day one. Jack takes a napkin from his back pocket.

“About 3 months. Yeah, both Molly and I are really anxious, it seems so close but the days are getting really dang slow.” Sam says taking a sip of his coffee. He got up from the table and went into C-lab, to test the new weaponry.

Jack wipes his left eye socket with the napkin, with that puss, and throws it in the trash. He observes new weaponry testing in C-lab. The weapon in testing is a stun gun that introduces the body with a virus that can kill someone in months. Test have proven efficient by 95%, Colonel Modern reads the file given to him at day one. He was given a live subject for testing this weapon.

“Alright Sam, commence primary charge test two,” the colonel told his assistant who is inside the laboratory and jack is in the observation quarter. Sam will be shooting a twenty four year old girl, with a charge that will not introduce the virus, but just stun her for about two minutes. The Colonel watches as his assistant aims the five inch pistol at the girl. She just stands there having fear in her eyes; she begins to back up as Sam fires.

She gets shocked, and begins to have a spasm when she fell to the floor. The colonel writes down in the file of the success of the test. “Colonel!” Sam yelled from inside the lab. Colonel Modern looked up to see Sam right next to the girl. “I shot her with the secondary charge, the Choker has been introduced. She has 36 hours until it can be transmitted to other people.” The colonel had anger in his eye. He walks up to the lab window.

“Put her in quarantine. Keep her locked up.” The colonel yelled through the glass, “No-one comes near her!” He turns back around walking towards the elevator, crossing off what he just wrote. “Report back to me when she can be tested on again” he yells as he enters the elevator. The ride up to floor one was a total of seven minutes, when he reached the top floor he met up with his commanding officer.

“How are you doing Jack?” the commanding officer asked, walking very slowly “How is Lizzy and the kids?”. The two walk to the coffee station in the entry way, they sit down, talking over the tests. Jack holds up his file showing the commanding officer he has it.

“Lizzy and the kids are fine, Michael is now fifteen, Rachel is eleven and Jason just turned six.” The colonel said as he opened the file. He turned through some of the pages laying them out on the small table they were sitting at. “Tests have improved over thirty percent in the last week. Several test of the X3 Fuze have proven very effective.” The commanding officer looks over the pages and notices the crossed out test result. he looked up and coughed.

“Jack, why is your most recent report crossed out?” the commanding officer said in a deep and stubborn voice. Jack thought up a good explanation instead of telling him the truth. Although he’d figure it out sooner or later, so there was no harm in telling the truth.

“Sam accidentally shot our live subject with the secondary charge,” Jack said with truth, “so I crossed my first report out, so i could rewrite it.”

“What,” the commanding officer yelled standing up in the process, “you were not supposed to shoot her with the secondary charge.”

Jack was confused, beyond comprehension. He tried to understand why, but he couldn't, he took a deep breath and looked at his watch. Two forty two am. “I don’t understand, I thought we did one week’s test on the primary charge, and another week on the secondary charge.” The colonel tried to solve the confusion. “And why are you making such a big fit, we have thirty six hours until it can be transmitted

“We don’t have thirty six hours, we have thirty six minutes!” the commanding officer raised his voice in frustration. The colonel heard his timer going off, telling him his half hour break was over.

“Oh no,” the colonel said out loud, getting up from his seat and walking to the elevator. His commanding officer ran after him, his red tie flung behind his neck as he caught up to the colonel. “ I left the lab ten minutes before my break, so that means if your information is valid, that our subject now can transmit the choker.” He reaches the elevator door and hits the down key and waits for the lift.

“But what are we going to do,” the commanding officer asks as he fixes his tie and catches his breath. “It’s not like we can jog right in there and get it out of her, we have to bring in an antidote. Guess what that takes Jack, time it takes time to get an antidote into the pentagon.” He finished his sentence as the elevator reached the level. Both he and Jack are about to walk in when all of a sudden a woman in grey worn down clothes runs into them.

It was the Vietnamese test subject, she had broken containment. In the commotion, she pushes the commanding officer and bumps into Jack. Jack grabs hold of her left arm; she turns and then stabbed his arm with a scalpel. He still holds on, inducing the pain as she stabs him again, this time he can’t hold on. He lets go with blood spilling out of the two punctures the girl introduced to his arm. He lays down yelling, loud enough for an echo to rise

“Stop her,” the commanding officer yells as he gets up. “Stop that woman. Come on Jack, lets go.” He grabs hold of Jack's arm and pulls him up, Jack starts screaming trying to hold it in. The blood started dripping down onto the tile floor as the colonel grabbed the commanding officers tie. “What are you doing?”

“Sorry Tom,” Jack says, yanking the tie off of Toms neck “I need to borrow your tie.” Jack wrapped the tie around his arm to stop the blood flow. The girl was already around the corner heading straight for the exit. Two security officers stood in her way, but she stabbed one in the thigh and dis-armed the other one. She looked at the colonel and commanding officer as they came around the corner. Tears were in her eyes, and they say her eyes were bleeding,

“Ma’am please stop, we can work this out,” Jack speaks as he puts his hands up, showing he means no harm. Blood was falling down his arm staining his shirt. “We can get you back to regular conditions. we can get the antidote for the thing that’s making you feel bad. We can get it here in two days, but just if you come with us we can work this out. Please there is no need to get the whole world sick.” He moves a little closer as he talks, “Do you understand what I’m trying to do?”

“You are the one that did this to me. Your world will burn, and there is nothing…nothing you can do to stop me.” she exclaimed, backing up towards the exit, “The loss of the American people will be on your hands. Their blood will be yours to quench when to heavy. The loss of your friend, Sam was his name, yea, Sam, will be on you.” She was yelling to the top of her lungs. People from around were gathering behind the colonel and Tom. The Vietnamese girl ran off.  Jack and Tom just stood there.

“We have to find Sam,” Jack said heading to the elevator. He was stopped by Tom's arm. Jack stopped and backed up a few steps.

“We have to get that woman back here, now,” Tom emphasized, “She has a virus that can kill millions when its spread!” he looked into Jacks eyes. Jack was huffing and resisting against Tom's strength. Jack really cares for Sam.

“We get Sam, and then we get the girl.” Jack said, jerking his arm away from Toms. Jack grabs a cloth from a custodial station and applied pressure on his arm as he and Tom enters the elevator. Jack and Tom have had a history together. Tom is Lieutenant Braws brother, and the attack on The White House changed his perspective in leadership. When they finally reach sub-level fifty two, they find Sam lying on the glass in C-lab with a blood puddle surrounding his body.

“Sam!” Jack yells as both he and Tom run to get into the lab. Tom tried his code but the panel has been hot-wired, there was no way into the lab. “Alright stand back,” Jack tells Tom as he pulls out his desert eagle. He fires one shot into the corner of the glass, then one shot in the center. Tom comes right behind him shooting his M1911; they shoot a total of twenty rounds before the glass breaks.

Jack runs up to Sam and sees the girl stabbed him in the lung and in the stomach, three stabs in all. He grabs the towel from his arm. Sam is breathing very slow and hard. Jack pulls out a needle full of narcotics. He jabs it into the left side of Sam’s neck. Sam feels relief almost immediately. Sam begins not to breathe. Tom feels his pulse for a few minutes.

“Jack!” Tom yelled trying to get jacks attention. Jack looks at Tom and Tom shakes his head “I’m sorry, I know how much he meant to you.” Jack starts to cry as he sees Sam is turning grey and not moving. He looks away and swipes his hands down Sam’s face to close Sam’s eyes. Jack starts to sober in the loss of his close friend, thinking about the time they had together at boot camp. First week Sam gets Jack in trouble by stealing one of the pistols from the armory and hiding it in Jack’s pack. Jack starts to laugh from that memory, as he looks at Sam.

“We need a med team down in sub level fifty two, Doctor down, I repeat doctor down.” Tom whispers into his radio calling for help. Tom helps Jack move Sam closer to the entrance. They both sit down as the paramedic's come down the emergency elevator. Jack looks at Sam being put into the bag and back on the stretcher. He still can’t believe his friend is gone.

Chapter 5
2135
Jake's residents
Nebraska

Jake was running for his life. What he found in the bunker was plans to transport drugs across the divide. He was caught snooping near the bunker and is now being chased by unleashed K9 units. His heart was beating faster than he could run. His sweat was drooping down into his eyes. He dodged one K9 by going down a sewage pipe, and came up by his street which was named Sulfur. He took the sidewalk to his house walking, to not draw attention. The one thing he doesn't realize is the police don’t have their sirens on.

Jake slowly closes the door to the house, not to wake his parents since it was four fifteen. He slipped his shoes off and grabbed a V-Shock soda from the fridge. He opened it really quickly he put it in his mouth to try and muffle the noise. The shock he gets when it touches his tongue is much eye widening.

“Couldn't sleep?” he heard his mother from the stairs. She was in her pink night gown blinking her eyes trying to stay awake. Jake turned around slow, and he nodded in lies. “I understand this new lifestyle, is different then the past was.”

“Was what,” Jake raised his voice with attitude, “a piece of bull crap?” Jake frowned in anger; he put the V-Shock soda back in the fridge. He looked out the window and notice red and blue strobe lights leaking through the window. He started to cry and he turned around facing his mom. “I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry mom”

“You've got to be kidding me Jake,” she yelled as Jake's dad came down. “Why did you go to the divide, again?” Jake's mom yelled as the SWAT broke through the door. They put their hands up, not wanting to be harmed.

Jake was really worried for his parents. So he did what he felt would get him and his family there freedom. “Wait,” Jake yelled just as all the officers were in the kitchen, “Wait I have proof of treason, look.” The cops stopped for a minute just to hear what Jake had for them.

“FlatPlate play video recording T3F4,” he commanded the FlatPlate, the FlatPlate then turned into a rectangle block that projects an image on any surface. Jake aims the FlatPlate towards the brown wall by the porch…..

“My name is Jake Anderson I’m a sixteen year old boy who just discovered a possible drug transport plan that goes across the divide.” Jake's family watches, and so do the cops. Jake's mom is crying because she can’t trust Jake anymore. “If you take a look at what I’m seeing, oh FlatPlate flashlight,” Jake tells the FlatPlate, then the vision is easier in the recording. A few of the cops take a seat on the couch

“You see these bins that are holding these small rectangular boxes. I’m pretty sure they’re caring crystal. And this map,” Jake holds up a map to the camera. “You see the line that represents the divide. There is a red line that crosses it, and of what I've been looking at it seems like a transporting convoy plan.” Jake looked back to a door in the room. “Behind this door,” Jake puts the camera down, and pushes the door open. He goes to pick the camera again, “behind this door is the tunnel that I’m sure is the access point for the transportation.”

Jake gets up from the couch and grabs his FlatPlate. He turns the FlatPlate off and looks to the police, “Is this proof enough?” Jake asked the police. He waited a few seconds for a response. “I will go with you if I have no choice.” He then said. The cops cuffed him; three of the four brought him outside. He slowly walked out; as he reached the door he stopped. He looked at his parents and gave them the 'OK' grin. The cops walked him down the path to the road.

“I’m sorry for the trouble ma’am,” the forth cop said just before he walked out the door. “We’ll bring your son back before lunch. Don’t worry.” The cop smiled for comfort he then noticed Mrs. Anderson crying really hard. He went up and rubbed her arm for more comfort.

Jake was read his rights, he really wasn't listening cause he didn't care. Jake heard a loud bang in the house. He first thought his mother was having a tantrum, but when he turned around he saw a flash, and heard another bang. A pile of blood shot onto the window.

“Mom! Dad!” Jake yelled running to the front of his house, the three cops ran after him, but they weren't fast enough. The fourth cop came out just in time, with blood spots on his arm and legs. “Why did you do that?” Jake spit in the cops face, having tears falling down his face very quick. The cop grabbed hold of Jake and threw him around.

“They saw too much,” the cop said, throwing Jake against the garage door. “This is on you, kid.” The cop said, going to pick him up.

“Those drugs,” Jake said in a more broken voice, as the cop picked him up, “those drugs are being transported by the police… aren't they?” Jake asked, being walked to the back of the police car. His question wasn't answered but it was obvious that it was a yes. Jake looked out the window the entire ride until they reached the police station.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Part 1 By: BlazinGamer

By BlazinGamer

Yo, Blaze here. Did ya hear, Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is out! Of course I have it, and IF YOU DON'T WANT ANY SPOILERS DON'T READ! Let's-a-go to the newest features in smash.

8-Player Smash

I find this the most amazing mode seeing how this game supports eight players! Now you don't have to worry about being a 5th, 6th, 7th, or even an 8th wheel but this mode does have, of course, an exception of only big stages, but bigger means better right?  Moving on then.

Secret Fighters
Secret fighters are characters who haven't been announced worldwide, but you can only find them through the official Smash Bros. website.  Honestly, I was surprised when I found out these were real, I was kind of glad and mad but I'm over it. Also, you have to unlock some of these characters in a certain way.

Ness

Just look at that detail! If you played the past games then you obviously know he is an original 12 and will always be in the smash series no matter what. He has the move set as before; PK Flash, PK Fire, PK Thunder, and PK Magnet; and he has been sorta powered up a bit. Hope you look forward to Ness as a playable I enjoy playing as him once in awhile too. P.S. If you're wondering what Ness' yo-yo says it says "Super Nintendo 2014," around the edge, it's the console his game was released on. Near the middle it says "Mother," that's what his game was called or a.k.a Earthbound.

Falco

Actually it wasn't that surprising that Falco is from Star Fox, and they need more Star Fox fighters. He has his own set of moves. So this individual unique character is bound to be in Smash Bros. That was the directors purpose to have a unique set of characters and their own skills.

Wario

As disturbing as this looks it actually gets weirder. That's is just one of his special moves, eating. He is known for disturbing, menacing, greedy, selfish, and dangerous actions. He does horrible things for gold like trying to kill Mario; speaking of Mario did you know Wario claims to know Mario since childhood? Creepy that he would remember that right? In this game he can taunt on his motorcycle, plus if you stall (keep away from fighters or just don't die) too much as him he'll start to flash yellow. In this process use his down special move and KABOOM! He farts causing him to launch in the sky and and damage his opponents, pretty disgusting right?

Dr. Mario

THIS CLONE HAS RETURNED??!?!?! RAGE!!!1!!!11!!!!1!!!!!1!11!1!!!!!11! Lol I'm just kidding. He's actually pretty strong now too, even stronger than Mario! Ironic if you think about it. His down special used to be Mario's old move before F.L.U.D.D. similar to the Luigi Tornado.

I know it's not enough but it's hard to decide on most of these pictures I'll try to continue it later, this is part one, see ya soon. Blaze out. Picture link: http://www.smashbros.com/us/secret/

Snowfall | By: Raymond Arnzen

Snowfall
Raymond Arnzen

Mountain wind slashed cold gashes into my skin. The sky darkened with the quickly brewing storm. No sound was audible in the mountainous terrain that surrounded me, not even sight could penetrate the snow that whipped and lashed the frozen stone. The other climbers had refused to continue to climb to this height of the mountains. At this moment, I envied them, I had been foolish to climb when clouds had lay on the horizon, I now was paying for it.

Cold light filtered through the walls of the tent, all of the other group members had already awoken. I pushed through the flap and saw the others talking quietly among themselves, fully ready for the mountain climb. Anxiety surged through me, this was my least favorite part of the trip, so much could go wrong, the timing was key, leave too early, have the group get tired at noon and have to sit in the snow and ice for hours, leave too late, you’ll have to walk in the dark. After I had put on all of my suffocating gear, I hailed my group over and we began the stone cold climb up the oversized rock. The stones around us were cold and unwelcoming, only broken by the malevolent snow, that seemed to scoff at our attempts to climb the bleak, gray rock.

The higher we went the lighter the air, pulling the oxygen from our lungs and filling them with emptiness, lowering our mental and physical stamina, taking more and more breaks the higher we went, even though we all knew that we were wasting precious daylight doing so, we had no clue what the real mountain would be like, training had helped, we all knew for certain, but none of us could or did prepare for the tortures of the mountain. The sun slowly sunk under the horizon, and with the vanishing of light, came the coming of the cold, the freezing, murderous cold that had claimed so many people who had done the same as us before. The wind was still being kind, for we still had far to go, and the mountain wanted to save it for the final, fatal, blow.

Sunlight slowly lit the mountains surface, all climbers had become weary from the first day. Everyone had darkened or faraway looks painted on there face. The sky was a pure light blue color, a good sign for us, though we all felt as though it would not last long, as we climbed some of us refused to continue, though were coaxed into continuing, though they followed reluctantly. Breaks were coming faster and faster as the cruel air strangled the energy from us, we were all starved, not of food, but of hope, we were too far to turn back, eerie gray clouds lay on the horizon, coming in from the north , they carried a payload of ice and snow, ready to fire when signaled. Our only choice was to hope there was a cave that could shelter us until the storm passed, one that would not leave any of us alive.

By noon all of us were gasping for the precious oxygen, swiping it away from one another, stealing what we need to survive, all without hesitation. The wind was starting to pick up, whipping shards of ice into our eyes whenever it saw the chance, many of us tried to cover our eyes, or squint but they proved ineffective or counteractive. Voices were silenced if not by fear of oxygen usage, then the fear of swallowing the biting air. Time was void in the mountains, only two times were accounted for, sunrise, and sunset, for we had lost any connection with civilization and its luxuries.

As we continued we found nooks, big enough for two or three people, we split into a few groups and dispersed into the nooks for the night, which were far, far away. As the sun set the wind grew louder and howled through the twilight sky, slashing and killing all that it could reach, screaming would be futile when in the presence of the wind, no one would hear your pleas, you would die alone, killed by wind and ice spearing you with frozen shards, any blood that might be spilled froze freezing you to death within minutes of being hunted by it, the king of the mountain. When we woke we went over to the other nook only to find three bodies, frozen nearly solid by the vicious killer, the mountain was not our home, and we were not invited, we had no place among the steep hills and deep valleys of the mountain.

We continued to struggle up the mountain, our heads hung low, faces dark. We had mentally given up, all hope of survival slowly whittled away by the stinging cold. Our burdenous coats stood no chance against the frozen air. The sky reflected our sour mood, taunting our minds and bodies. Food was the least of our worries, even though the taste of food was unrecallable. Our tools had been less fortunate than us, failing to keep up with the constant use and cold of the mountain. Climbing now had become nearly impossible, limiting our paths upwards, thus slowing our progress. All limbs were now numb, as if accepting their fate and slipping away from us, losing their functionality. By sun set we had climbed up the mountain a mere few meters, and only one nook lay in the wall. We could only find room for one, but when we entered we found something that would allow the others to survive the night.

Darkness filled my vision, the only thing hinting at my survival was the frigid air hissing at us with hatred. The hole in the corner of the nook had saved us, with one of the axe heads we had kept for hope in might become useful, and that it did, we broke open a larger cavern, just big enough for all of us. Wind had tortured our sleep once we had been settled, and it did still, hours later, it still persisted, the storm would blow us off the mountain if we tried to walk out of the nook. I rose my head, the nook was snowless at far most area, but the entrance was practically covered in snow, the snow that would have killed us, might have saved us. It had blocked the ice from penetrating, even though ice fell now, the early snow had hardened because of the cold, and now acted as a wall. I layed my head back down we could not travel in this perilous weather, we would have to wait it out.

Revamped Grand Theft Auto 5

Revamped Grand Theft Auto 5

By: Ethan Pearson

Imagine, being in a world where anything could happen, where you could do anything you wanted and if you did end up dying, you just come back to life. Now imagine that but with even better graphics, more options and a better environment, that's the world of Grand Theft Auto V revamped.
Since the original game came out September 17th, 2013, it was a huge hit. It was so big that it became the fastest selling entertainment product and not only videogames, throughout the whole spectrum. IN HISTORY!They sold more than 34 million copies! It became the sixth best selling game of all time and is expected to thrive to close to the top. Also, many people know about Minecraft, Gta V is expected to surpass it with the new version, the better version.
Like said before "the better version," the Remastered version came out November 18th this year. The game was improved in many areas, all the way from graphics to the weather! The first thing they revised was the graphics; for example you can now see the individual needles of a cactus, the graphics are almost life like. Another thing thing they changed was adding more detail and quantity of guns and cars, even aerial transportation. They also remastered the wildlife and traffic, now adapting to your every move. And lastly they added enhanced damage (more accurate damage to the environment of the attack) and there are more effects from weather, like for example it'll get slippery when it rains and harder to see.
That's not the end of the fun, on January 24th they'll be releasing the computer compatible version for better game experiences. With the computer version, you can now use your Oculus rift with first person option. They expect it to surpass Minecraft in the top of the charts.
All in all, for all GTA gamers they'll be in for a treat with the new Xbox1 and Ps4 compatable games and after that, the computer version. This is Ethan Pearson reporting out

Glass Heart: By Kory Rachac (Prologue and Chapter 1)

Glass Heart Kory Rachac

2135
92nd Divide
Center of Nebraska

Do you love me? Read the note Tasheia wrote. Jake looked down to his note book with a blood pumping pencil in his hand. Slowly, writing four words. He wrote them down and held the piece of paper up for her to see. More than you think XD, his smile showed more than he felt. His mind was ripped in two, because she was his love and they were separated from each other. He looked down at the foundation of the wall separating them.
The metal was cold with hot spots telling where the electrical wires were. He looked up with tears falling. Tasheia lost her smile in his tears; she was shocked to see him like that. She wrote down in her papyrus bark, please don’t cry. He wasn't too worried, someday they could be together. He lipped, sorry, through the glass that let them see each other. It was four-twenty-seven the guard comes around about four-thirty.
The two blew kisses through the glass, Jake stood there for a minute making sure Tasheia made it back without trouble. Even though his sight was blocked, by the building that was behind the wall. He daydreamed about the day this crap would stop, when the Vietnamese could be once again with other people. Like, it was before.
"Hey kid," Jake heard a voice; he looked up to see the guard standing in the wall, wearing his marine blue uniform. "You’re not supposed to be this close to the Divide!" the guard yelled, looking at Jake really awkward. His hand was raised with a swift stroke pointing to a sign.
"Can you please read what that sign says, out loud?" The guard rudely instructed, giving Jake a rough time. Jake looked back to a yellow sign, he looked back at the guard and his eyes rolled away. His voice grunted with grief. Jake slowly walked over to the sign kicking stones and metal fragments, in torment. He got to the sign which was neon yellow, with black caution lines.
"This is the 92nd divide," Jake read, clearing his throat, "this wall was made to prevent the spread of the Máy bị Nghẹt other known as the Choker to American population." Jake read on through emergency precaution and protocol. His eyes were drowned in vocab and instructional say.
"If any person from this side passes this sign," Jake looked at the guard still standing there with his arms crossed in anger. Jake looked back at the sign with no confusion.
"If any person from this side passes this sign, they will be arrested and Court-Martialed for breaking the law and the twenty eighth amendment." Jake finished with a big breath, he clapped his hands together. He noticed a group of American civilians surrounded him in wonder. His head was spinning in confusion.
"What’s the big deal," he asked the guard, with guiltiness in his voice, "it's not like anyone follows this anyway." he stated
"Actually I do, and my family. You should too. It’s not safe to get to emotionally connected with the Vietnamese, Jake." Rachel's voice echoed through the crowd. Rachel is Jake's American friend, from school; they hang every Tuesday at five O'clock. She’s always wearing that hot pink shirt, with ocean blue skirt.
"Rachel, let me handle this please," Jake begged, Rachel backed away with her hands up like a prisoner. The crowd started to chant in agreement to Rachel's statement. Jake turned around to see two more guards these men were in tactical black. Jake stood there for a minute and flung his arms up. The crowd around him grew each second he procrastinated. He finally noticed one of the men was holding cuffs.
“Are you serious," Jake yelled, loud enough for the Vietnamese people to hear. “I’m sorry, that I passed the sign. Can we please just forget about this, it never happened, lips sealed?"…

Chapter 1

Jake was sitting in his kitchen with disgrace in his face. He heard the tapping of the rain hitting the kitchen window. His ears blocked out the sound of his mom’s anger.
"I can't believe, you got anywhere near the Divide. It breaks my heart to hear you got arrested." Jake's mom yelled with depth in her voice.
"Mom stop yelling, for Pete sake I was just arrested for an over exaggeration." Jake argued "and this is my first arrest, and they told me that I wouldn't be Court-Martialed, so it shouldn't go on my record." he tried to stay positive, but with his mother nothing stays positive.
"But your sixteen Jake, sixteen," she emphasized "Mark he's your son too you should have a say in this conversation."
"Alright Charlene, Jake me and your mother are very disappointed in you," Jake's dad explained "if you go near the Divide again your FlatPlate will be taken away." Jake's dad got up from his seat in the kitchen, the rain picked up outside.
Jake's parents are too protective of him, all he thinks of now is Tasheia and when they first met, he has it written down in his FlatPlate…
Today is July 23, 2129
Today was the most amazing day for me. Today I met a girl named Tasheia, but she's a Vietnamese citizen. it was an odd way of meeting, me and a couple of my friends threw a Frisbee that hit the Divide, I was the one chosen to go get the Frisbee.
I found the Frisbee in the bushes near the subway of 4th Ave. It was right next to the Divide, but I also found Tasheia, and right then it was like in the movies, time freezes my surroundings slowed down as the sun's rays brightened. The market was right behind me where my friends were. They were watching me, I'm sure.
I felt different at that moment, but I dropped it because it was against my parent’s wishes. So I got the Frisbee and left. and that was it, but it didn't stay away. the feeling kept coming back, so i went and met with the girl every day.
"FlatPlate off," Jake heard the command he turned around to see his mother standing there, "so you met someone at the Divide?" she asked, waiting for an answer.

"Yes," Jake paused, kind of embarrassed "I still don’t understand, even three years learning about Operation Veedom. What in the world is wrong with these Vietnamese people?" Jake was hesitant to ask. The rain stopped like a faucet.
"I have a book here, given to me by your uncle, my brother. He was a marine who fought in that war," she held the book up, giving it to Jake "it's not heavy duty something you can read at least." they both chuckled at the joke.
"The Rides on Tides by J.T Modern, Hmm this feels like a paper report, it's not too heavy, like you said."Jake realized moving the book up in down as he got up. “I’ll read it after dinner."
Jake looked at his mother, and his mother looked at him and saw only distrust. She couldn't tell if she could trust him anymore. Jake left the room very sudden but left the book on his dresser right by the window showing the alley, And the Divide. The sun began to set and the moon to show, Jake got out of bed once it was three o'clock.
He slowly put his clothes on; he grabbed his hang-bag which was right by his room’s door leading its way to the front door. His steps were silent as whispers. He stepped out into the cool atmosphere, looking left towards Paul's meat storage, then right to the Divide. He started to run to the Divide.
"FlatPlate on," Jake whispered, taking his FlatPlate out while running, “play audio file T3CG." His motion was swift as the moon eclipsed over the buildings around him.

Illustrator: Jon Spahn

2096
Operation Veedom
Washington D.C

"Commander, we've lost Whiskey Hotel, I repeat we've lost Whiskey Hotel." Lieutenant Braws yelled across the field, as battalions are spread across the lawn of the white house maintaining a good perimeter. The white house has been attacked by Vietnamese forces known as the Vasden. The Vasden have been Americas most wanted terrorist group since the Taliban.
“Give me a Sit-rep, where's Bravo squadron?" the commander asks, as he takes his radio” this is C-Lord Actual attempting to locate Bravo squadron, give me a sit-rep, how copy?" the commander commanded
Static took over the radio as the commander looked at the white house grounds, seeing RP-G's on the second level in the president’s quarters and sentry placements in the Oval Office. His sight was blinded by the mortars impacting the iconic fountain in front of the white house.
"Copy solid, C-Lord actual." came a voice over the radio "Hawkstrike true, it’s a mess we're in right now, we're pinned down, on point -Whiskey…Whiskey." the line went silent for a few seconds "C-Lord actual, we saw the mortar strike hit the P.E.O.C. It’s a hole in the ground, there is nothing left." the line went silent again
The Commander through his radio, He got up with rage, and looked at the location of the iconic fountain, and it was a hole in the ground.
"Commander Modern," lieutenant Braws yelled, holding a radio, "HQ has new sets of orders." he said handing the radio over. The commander ran over and grabbed the radio with force.
"This is C-Lord actual." Commander Modern said loudly so they could hear him
"C-Lord actual, we have reasons to believe the president is still alive. Get your squad together and move to sector Charlie." Overlord ordered, as Commander Modern swung his arm for roundup.
"C-Lord Solid copy, but HQ sector Charlie is in enemy territory and is under heavy fire," the commander said as his squadron grouped up around him "RP-G's on second floor in the president’s quarters and sentry placements in the Oval Office. We would be dead in minutes, how copy?"
The commander heard a big bang on his six; he turned around to see a Black Hawk on fire swirling out of control, right onto their location. "C-Squad move out!" he yelled, trying to get his troops away from the crash zone. He and the squad ran towards the White House. Squads are in trenches across the entire lawn of the white house fighting off the forces inside.
The commander and his squad took cover behind pillars, on the right side of the iconic fountain. "Alright, C-Squadron it looks like sentry units are now in the blue room laying suppressive fire on the front lawn." the commander said, as he pointed to the suppressive points. “So we need to get inside Whiskey Hotel, and get to the P.E.O.C. HQ believes the president is still alive."
The group stays in the cover their in, listening to the commanders orders. "I'll lay suppressive fire," a hand was raised, and lieutenant Braws walks up "which will give you guys a chance to get in." the group looks at him in shock "just give me a RPD and a load of C4, I should get their attention really good." a giggle grew among the crowd.
“Adam I can't ask you to do this," the commander said to lieutenant Braws.
“Then don’t," he interrupted, hitting the commanders shoulder " I've got your six, and you guys better have my twelve, or you all are paying me Blood-Scotch when we get back home." the lieutenant switched his weapon out with Major Chzek, and he had the RPD T139. The lieutenant just laid back in the trench, laying suppressive fire for the group.

Chapter 3
2135
92nd divide
Nebraska
Jake heard the leaves swaying with the wind, as the audio file for "The rides on tides" was playing. He was sitting on the roof of Sub JJ , smelling the aroma of subs mastered in perfection. The moon was full on this crisp night; Jake looked at his FlatPlate and saw that it was Two-Forty-Five.
"FlatPlate pause audio file T3CG," Jake waited for it to pause. The view from Sub JJ was straight to the divide, and he could literally jump on top of it.
"Audio file paused." Jake's FlatPlate told him
"FlatPlate off," Jake said with a clear voice "it seems like that lieutenant Braws dude is going to get wrecked." Jake exaggerated as he got up from the roof. The feeling of shingles really didn't impress comfort. Jake rubbed his eyes to stay awake, he looked quick to the divide, he kissed his fingers then held them up. "Goodnight Tasheia.” Jake said then jumped down to the dirt road.
All the roads across the country have been made into dirt, so more vegetation could be grown. Jake looked towards the location of his house, and then looked back to the divide which was fifty meters away. He rolled his eyes, and then dashed to the divide. He took cover behind a building almost ten meters from the divide. He saw light beams hitting the dirt; he observed the patrol line across the top of the divide. And looked at spots where the light didn't hit.
Desperation took over; he jolted to another observation point. “FlatPlate on, volume to level 12, search for dark points in the wall.” Jake told the FlatPlate, his FlatPlate began to scan the area, with a heat sensor, giving the area with least light to stand out.
“Found dark area, over by the main gate.” The FlatPlate said, Jake looked around and then found the main gate. It was to his left just by the bunker, where rumors say soldiers from the U.S seals are hiding so if the Vietnamese try and come over to American soil, they can just take them out, but it’s never been proven. Jake started to jog over there underneath building roof hang overs, trying to stay out of the spotlights sight.
His eye was fixed on the bunker; he didn't want to get caught. He went to the entrance of the bunker to take a look inside, and see if there were any seals inside. He didn't see any people inside. So with curiosity he continued inside to look what was down here, avoiding the no trespassing sign right by the entrance.
“FlatPlate, flashlight,” Jake told the FlatPlate, the FlatPlate turned into a LED cube, giving off light in every direction. Jake looked around the room seeing nothing but crates, looking like a warehouse. He looked to his left, where stood a desk. He placed the FlatPlate on a coaster. He looked at what seemed like transportation files, he tried to see where the transportation was heading.
“Let me think here,” Jake talked to himself out loud; he kept looking at the files. He sees a line on a map he found in a drawer. He figured that it was the divide since every map after the divide was built was implemented with a line, representing the divide, “It looks, like it might go across the divide.” Jake whispers, “who in the world wants to transport anything across the divide?” he asked himself. He keeps looking around until he sees a file that says Vasden on the cover.
